Beaner and Ken’s Home on the Web

Letters and emails we’ve received from our fans.

Thank you so VERY much for remembering the show!

December 15th 2006 was the last time Beaner and I were on the air together. That’s the day that, despite #1 ratings in TWO cities, (Birmingham and Syracuse) our contract was not renewed. Since then we have been trying to find a new outlet to present our show. We still have not given up and despite the sad state of the radio business these days, we will continue.

Beaner is living in New Jersey and I (Ken) am back in Birmingham. I have to say that even though I love being here, I am somewhat envious of Bean. Why? Seems like just about every time I’m grocery shopping, bowling, riding my motorcycle, throwing rocks at Paul Finebaum, taking a walk or playing with my band, someone will approach me and ask: “What happened to the show?” Then I, of course, have to tell them the same sad story about the ‘perfect storm’ of events which led to our departure. This breaks my heart a little each time, but it reminds me how much people loved our show. We weren’t given the opportunity to say goodbye, so that is why I maintain this website. The hundreds of show clips available here are a way for us to thank you for continuing to remember the show. I know I speak for Beaner when I tell you how much of an honor we considered being allowed to live in your morning radio. To this day, Bean and I still receive a lot of e-mail from fans who ask when we’re coming back. Others just wanted to say “Hi”. A handful of nut-bars e-mail incoherent ramblings and send pictures of their junk. –But we appreciate ALL of it! So… Here I’ll post some of the best/most interesting e-mail beanerandken.com has received over the past year or so. THANK YOU most sincerely! You are the BEST morning show audience in the world.

Beaner/Ken, Dudes, where are you at? I’ve been trying for months to find a way to get you guys over the internet. I’ve been having withdrawals for years. I lived in B’ham and worked in Hueytown for a couple of years back around 2000 and was fully addicted to your morning hijinx and witty banter. I heard about your departure and was just short of destroyed. Since then I’ve moved all around the country and have continually tried to get my fix of the b/k extravaganza.

I recently found this site and was somewhat stoked until I found out that I couldn’t get you guys streaming thru to my little hole of a world here in the virginia area and am still required to listen to lesser morning hosts while waiting for your triumphant return. BTW, I was looking through all your old bits and I didn’t see my favorite… you know when ken fell off the billboard and was died… you gotta get that one on the air… I think it was when he was doing a “stamina” stint on the billboard for some charity. Anyway, I just wanted to show my love and see if there was any update when all your faithful might be able to quench this need for some b/k.

Hi Ken (and Beaner)

I am just writing to say how much my wife and I miss you guys in the morning here in Syracuse! Ken, you may remember me as the guy who used to come to the bowling alley on Sundays to say Hi to you! My name is Brandon. You made me a copy of your 4 motorcycle skits! My wife and I used to love listening to you guys on our way to work every morning on our way to work! We especially loved it when we heard your clips from your secret review of Brokeback Mountain! When one of you guys would exclaim “I’m holding your weiner!” Syracuse isn’t the same without you guys and 95X definitely went downhill with the Dopey and Anthill Show! We just wanted you to know that there are still folks here in Syracuse who appreciated your company every morning. Keep rockin whereever you are! I won’t be able to hear if you guys respond to this so send me an E-mail or something! It would be great to hear you again!

Thanks for the memories

I just stopped by to check how things are. I first started listening to you guys on 100.5 The X about…. four years ago or so. I can’t believe how time has flown. I don’t know if you have kept up with the radio stations in Birmingham since you guys have left, but the situation has been terrible. The X was replaced by a news station, The Q took over 103.7 and now there is a rock station on 105.5 called The Vulcan. And there are three things wrong with this. First of all, none of these radio stations have morning shows ANYTHING like ya’lls; secondly, The Vulcan upsets me because it reminds me of all of the hilarious bits you do with Vulcan and so, to me, Vulcan basically belongs to you. Not to 105.5 and not to Birmingham. =); and the third and most obvious, you guys aren’t on. While I do listen to the morning shows on these stations, I have yet to get my morning-show-fix. There’s no comparison to your show and I doubt that there ever will be. I don’t mean to diss the other stations of course…. because I know that they try hard to be great and everything, and sometimes they are quite funny. I just mean that it’s not the same anymore. Not worth getting up early for, if you will. Anyway, just wanted to let you guys know that I appreciate all that you’ve done over the past few years for my confidence and sense of humor. I send my love to both of you and to your families.

Take care, and God bless.
-Claire

Hey,

I miss your show. imo it was the funniest show on the radio I had ever heard. Made the work commute something to look forward to. Now how awesome is that??! opie and andy( appropriately saying their names sounds like noises you make when you hurl)are so crude and rude, that I no longer even listen to that station. They aren’t even entertaining with their whiney crybaby complaining. And the station lost the SU sports account! HA HA HA HA. No doubt because all those mommies and daddies shelling out the big bucks for their kiddies education found them too offensive, no matter what other reason they try and tell anyone! Syracuse listeners have more class than that station gives us credit for. I would bet large bucks they lost a lot of listeners when they canned your show. You guys were a class act! WAQX is the real loser. So glad you left your stuff up online, thanks for all the laughs.

Hey guys,

My name’s Noah .. or “Dexter” as it was when we briefly worked together. I was at 95X when you first landed the Syracuse gig. For a time I spent many an eerie night all alone in the station with ken after hours … as the sounds of kung-fu movies and prank phone calls would echo down the halls from his office. We even got the chance to intervene on some high class domestic abuse from the apartment complex next door. And I’ll never forget the time Beaner and I got hammered on peppermint schnapps, drove to New Jersey and spent the night in jail. Anyhow … I was just feeling nostalgic about the old days, wondered whatever became of you two and wanted to say hi. Odds are you won’t remember me. I was railroaded out of the station by Alexis who decided that asking to get paid for maintaining all 4 station websites was too bold and punishable by being stripped of all responsibility and hours. I didn’t last very long after that. Since then I was a cafeteria worker, a water scientist field technician, a professional screen printer, a truck driver … and now I work in insurance. The years I spent in radio seem like a strange dream … but if you’re real then they must be too. I hope all is well.

Take care
-Noah

God I wish you guys were still here on the air. The choices in B’ham suck arse. We should start a movement, a revolution if you will, nay a rebellion! WE’RE MADDER THAN HELL AND WE’RE NOT GONNA TAKE THIS ANYMORE!!!!! ahem, so anyway we need you more than ever.

I really miss hearing you guys on 95X here in Syracuse. I would listen in while picking up my girlfriend from work in the morning. Her and I aren’t together anymore. She was such a slut. But at least I got to listen to you guys while waiting for her slutty ass to get out of work. Her name is name is Maxine and she works at Crouse Hospital. Thanks to you guys, I have broadened my knowledge of fine cheese. I hope you guys get picked up soon, you had a great show. But you’ll probably get hired at a station in a city that’s filled with people with diverse cultures and a sense of humor. Syracuse lacks anything worth writing home about. I’m not sure what is worth writing home about, but I know if I was out of town, I wouldn’t even write back to Syracuse let alone write home about Syracuse if I was from somewhere else. Yea.

I was a friend of Beaner and Ken back in the day and miss you guys. Radio really sucks these days. I’ve been listening to Sirius for the last 2 years. My girlfriend really loved you too and I decided to put together some MP3 CDs for her to listen to your stuff during her drive. (i know, it’s sweet. Hopefully it will help me to get laid) Anyway, I downloaded all 40 pages of your stuff including the Kentucky Jelly prank call!

It was the best.
thanks!

Beaner and Ken,

Come back to the ‘ham! My wife seriously misses you guys and it is starting to affect our marriage. She’s just not the same girl I married. I’m willing to share her affections - just come back to a Birmmingham station. If you send her an email, that may get her by for a while. Bro to Bro I’m begging.

What the hell is Bob saying? Hey guys. I miss your Wednesday morning harassing phone calls. Get back on the air soon. Syracuse morning talk radio just is not the same. 95 X made a big mistake opting for Opie & Anthony. Just between me and you, they have nothing on you two. Call me any time 315-XXX-XXXX !!! I got some more songs up my sleeve.

I’m missing you guys like crazy. I started listening back in high school and you guys carried me all the way through college until your show disappeared. The Big Salty Ham misses Beaner & Ken! And on behalf of Vulcan, since I live a block away from his naked ass, you guys need to come back. His emotial eating is really starting to show–he’s developed a little paunch over his chaps. Come home soon!!!

I wish you guys would give them a Satanic wake up call! anyway, Ken, sorry I missed you when you came to birmingham several months ago. I believe it was on a Thursday night. I had class that night and was unable to make it.I told you that I was coming and didnt. Maybe next time. take care guys. Hope to hear you soon.
